I have made plenty of keto appetizers over the years, but these spicy jalapeño keto BLT bites are one of the few recipes people immediately ask about after trying them.

Most low-carb appetizers tend to fall into two extremes. They are either overloaded with cheese and feel too heavy after a few bites, or they try so hard to be “healthy” that nobody really wants more than one. These somehow land right in the middle.

The cucumber keeps them fresh and crunchy, the bacon adds enough saltiness to make them satisfying, and the smoky chipotle mayo gives them a little extra flavor without making the recipe complicated.

The jalapeños were actually a last-minute addition the first time I made these. I originally planned to keep the recipe simple, but after tasting the smoky mayo, it felt like the bites needed something brighter and slightly spicy to balance everything out. It ended up completely changing the recipe for the better.

The cucumber base replaces bread or crackers while still giving the bites a satisfying crunch. That makes them a good option when you want something low-carb that still feels fresh and light.

The smoky chipotle mayo also helps pull everything together. Plain mayonnaise would work, but the extra smoky flavor gives the bites a much more balanced taste, especially combined with crispy bacon and jalapeño slices.

Another thing that makes these bites work well is the texture. You get crisp cucumber, creamy avocado, crispy bacon, juicy tomato, and a little heat from the jalapeños all in one bite. Many keto appetizers rely heavily on cheese and cream, but these feel fresher and more balanced.

Easy Low-Carb Party Food Without Complicated Prep

These bites look impressive on a platter, but the actual preparation is very simple.

They also work well during warmer months because they are served cold and require little cooking beyond preparing the bacon.

Small Changes That Make Them Even Better

If you like more heat, add extra jalapeño slices or a pinch of cayenne to the smoky mayo.

For a slightly fresher flavor, a squeeze of lime over the finished bites works surprisingly well with the avocado and chipotle seasoning.

You can also make these a little more filling by adding extra avocado slices or thicker bacon pieces on top.

Fresh cilantro works especially well here because it cuts through the smoky flavors and gives the bites a fresher finish. If you are not a fan of cilantro, chopped parsley or green onion also works well.

Equipment

  • 1 baking sheet
  • 1 skillet
  • 1 Mixing Bowl
  • 1 cutting board
  • 1 chef’s knife
  • parchment paper optional

Ingredients
  

  • 6 slices bacon
  • 1 English cucumber medium, sliced into rounds
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise for smoky chipotle mayo
  • 1 avocado large, sliced
  • 2 tomatoes sliced and cut into portions
  • ¼ cup cilantro chopped
  • 2 jalapeños medium, thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp chipotle powder or minced chipotle peppers
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 4 oz cream cheese softened
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Place bacon slices in a single layer in a cold, large skillet.  Heat over medium heat.
  • Cook bacon, flipping as needed, until cooked through and crispy, about 10 to 12 minutes.
  • As bacon slices finish cooking, remove from heat and place on a papertowel lined plate to drain. Set aside to cool.
  • Meanwhile, slice cucumber at an angle into 12 slices.
  • Once the bacon is cooled, break into smaller strips
  • In a small bowl, mix mayonnaise, cream cheese, chipotle powder, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until smooth.
  • Thinly slice the jalapeños.
  • Assemble the BLT bites by spreading each cucumber slice with smoky chipotle mayo.
  • Top with avocado slices, tomato pieces, crispy bacon, and jalapeño slices.
  • Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve immediately.

Notes

For milder BLT bites, remove all jalapeño seeds and membranes before slicing.
These bites are best served fresh to keep the cucumber crisp.
You can prepare the smoky chipotle mayo and bacon ahead of time for faster assembly.
For extra smoky flavor, use smoked bacon and a pinch of extra smoked paprika.
